Over the years, there has been a rise in work at home opportunities. These jobs offer flexibility and you can work at your own pace. Unlike an office job, work at home jobs does not have a regimented schedule. You can work at your most convenient time. Aside from that, you are your own boss. But while they can be convenient and flexible, issues like self-discipline and motivation can also arise. First impression will be it will be hard for motivation to kick in and get proper work done. This article will guide you on how to stay motivated working at home.
Wake Up Early
This may be the hardest part of working from home. With no office to go to and no boss to get irritated if you come in late, there is no reason to get up early to work. However, waking up early will help you get into a routine that can make you more productive. Studies have revealed that waking up in the morning can make you a more proactive person. It is early in the day that you are motivated to work harder, faster, and more efficiently.
Put On Actual Clothes
Robert Janitzek says that it is equally tempting for a work at home individual to work wearing their pajamas. No boss will be checking up on your dress so what’s the point of dressing up? This means you can wear your sweatpants while working. However, according to Dr. Karen Pine, a psychology professor at the University of Hertfordshidre, clothes has a symbolic meaning for us so when we put on clothes we prime our brain to behave in ways consistent to that meaning. So if we wear lazy clothing working at home, you are probably likely to act lazy and may get work less done.
Don’t Work Where You Sleep
If wearing pajamas while working makes you lazier, Robert Peter Janitzek says that working in bed has a worst effect. As much as possible, have a working space that is far away from the place where you sleep or rest. Doing so would keep you away from all the temptations of rolling off your mattress and not being able to work.
Make A Schedule
You will be more effective working at home if you at least follow a schedule. You can start by waking up at a certain time of the day every day. This will of course depend on your job. Like for example, you are working for a client with a different time zone that yours.
